Red bordered white pentagon with black anchor in the middle. The fin carries an adapted national flag. Cochrane and Elliott (1998) show it as a 1:2 national flag.

Cochrane and Elliott (1998) state that this is also used in variety with the star being black.


Cochrane and Elliott (1998) also mention other aircraft markings that are based on flags. They report that Indonesia used captured Japanese and Dutch aircraft at first and recoloured their roundels particularly to gain red-white ones. So, the Japanese roundels were whitened out in the lower half and in the Dutch roundels the blue was painted out. (It may be difficult to see how the Dutch triangular roundel with an orange "eye" was dealt with, but in the turmoil of the war and afterwards in what was to become Indonesia, I guess that we ask for too much systematic practice.)

Since 1954 the current roundels, as quoted above, have been used.  At one time low visibility markings are introduced consisting only of  a black outlined pentagon:
